We Are Scouts, We are Messngers of Peace

Our Rich History Scouting in Nigeria traces its roots back to 1912 when Lord Frederick Lugard, then Governor-General of Nigeria, introduced this noble movement to our shores. It was here, in present-day Kogi State, that the first Scout Troop was established, forever tying Nigeria to the global scouting family initiated by Lord Robert Stephenson-Smyth Baden Powell in 1907. Growing Strong Over the years, scouting in Nigeria has grown from strength to strength. We've weathered challenges and celebrated milestones, from our registration under the International Scout Centre in Ottawa, Canada, to our establishment as the Boy Scout Association of Nigeria in 1915. Distinguished Leadership Our leadership has included visionaries like Chief Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe, who became the Chief Scout of Nigeria shortly after Nigeria's independence in 1960, and General Yakubu Gowon, whose contributions to scouting were monumental during his tenure as Chief Scout from 1966 to 1975. Today's Leadership At the helm of our organization today, we have Hon. Dave Padopads-Awunah, the Chief Commissioner of Scouts of Nigeria, who continues to lead us with dedication and innovation. Our Programs and Impact Scouting in Nigeria is about more than just a century-old tradition. It's about making a meaningful impact on our communities and nation. Our initiatives, such as the Campaign Against Drug Abuse (CADA), Campaign Against Insecurity and Terrorism (CAIT), Citizens Tax Responsibility Awareness Campaign (CITRAC), and many others, reflect our commitment to creating a better world. Our Reach With a presence in every state of Nigeria, Scouts of Nigeria is a nationwide movement with a proud tradition of community involvement and leadership development. Our numbers are significant, with over 3 million scouts making up our vibrant scouting community. Leadership and Governance Our organization is governed by a dedicated team, including HRH Justice Emmanuel Dodo Audu (Chairperson of the National Scout Board), Dr. George Ohwoekevwo (Vice Chairperson), and Dr. Yemisi Adedokun (National Treasurer), among others. Looking Ahead As we look to the future, we remain committed to our mission of creating responsible citizens who contribute positively to society. Scouting in Nigeria continues to thrive, adapt, and make a lasting impact on the lives of our youth. Join us in this remarkable journey of scouting, leadership, and community service. Together, we can build a brighter future for Nigeria and the world.
